The galaxy NGC 6946 ("Fireworks Galaxy") on the border between the constellations Cepheus and Cygnus on September 1/2, 2011. The spiral galaxy is 22 million light years from Earth and was discovered by William Herschel in 1798.

Three 10 minute exposures at ISO 1600 were added for this shot with the DeepSkyStacker software and the final image processing was done in Photoshop. Unfortunately, when viewed at 100%, the image of the galaxy is far too noisy. I need to redo this image with even longer exposures (or with the same exposures at a lower temperature).
Equipment: Canon EOS 20Da camera, TeleVue coma corrector, Zambuto 16" f/5 quartz optics in a Dieter Martini dobsonian telescope, dual-axis Tom Osypowski equatorial platform, Lacerta MGEN autoguider, Teleskop-Service off axis system TS-OAG9 EOS.
